Defense Intel Alumni Association and Diplomat and Counselor Officers Retired Joint Forum - 31 July 2015
After a hiatus of several years, DIAA and DACOR renewed the very popular Joint Defense and Foreign Policy-oriented forum series. At this event Timothy Heath, Senior Defense Research Analyst, RAND Corporation, addressed “What’s Driving Xi Jinping’s Vigorous Policy Agenda?”.
From the fall of Zhou Yanking to the extensive reclamation activity in the South China Sea, China has seen some of the most dramatic changes in politics and policy in decades. What’s driving these changes and what does it mean for U.S. policy? Tim Heath surveyed some of the latest developments in Chinese domestic politics and foreign and security policy. He discussed continuities and differences between Xi Jinping’s policy agenda and that of Hu Jintao, focusing in particular on the pursuit of 'national rejuvenation.' Mr. Heath concluded with a discussion of implications for U.S. decision makers.
