Still Serving in Defense of the Nation

Retired DIA colleague Albert M. Burger passed away on July 15 after suffering a broken hip and other medical complications. Al, know to his family as friends as Skip, died peacefully, surrounded by family, at his home in McLean.

 

Al began his career by leaving college to join the Marine Corps and was sent to Vietnam. After his tour in Vietnam, he finished his degree, earned his Master’s degree, and was recruited by DIA. He served his country more than 40 years, including his USMC time in Saigon, as a DIA civilian in the U.S. Embassy in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, at Arlington Hall Station, at the Pentagon, and as the first DIA Liaison to the Pacific Command in Hawaii.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Toni, children Jennifer

(Riccardo), Pak (Saman) Burger; granddaughters Andrea Burger,

Christina and Sophie Arregoces; great-granddaughter Jade

Preston; and his brother Ken Burger.
