DIA developed a new analytic training program called Professional Analyst Career Education (PACE). This DI and Training and Education Directorate (TED) partnership provides immersive and rigorous training over the course of 16 weeks to a cohort of 25 analysts from across the Defense Intelligence enterprise. The PACE curriculum focuses on critical and creative thinking, communication, teamwork, and customer engagement. The first pilot started on October 28, 2013.
DIAA members were invited to participate in the graduation ceremony for the first PACE class on March 14, 2014. We participated in the program alongside LTG Flynn, Director; Ms. Cathy Johnston, Director of Analysis; and Mr. Michael Higgins, USDI. The cohort was comprised of 21 students from DIA, the Commands and the Services and it was clear from their enthusiasm that they had achieved one of the course objectives of networking! Barbara Duckworth presented three awards on behalf of DIAA: for Excellence in Analytic Written Communication, Excellence in Analytic Verbal Communication and Excellence in Critical Thinking. The presentation included a certificate, a small gift and the highly coveted DIAA coin! Upon conclusion of the ceremony, LTG Flynn expressed his thanks for DIAA’s participation and support and said this gave him ideas of other ways we can participate. The next mentoring panel will be in September. We will be asking for volunteers at a future date.
Regarding the mentoring to new employees, the speed mentoring has been in hiatus. The program leadership has changed and civilian hiring has been minimal. However, we have expressed our interest in contributing and have had recent discussions with several people in the program office. Look for future updates on this program.
