John Stephen Lewis
Lieutenant Colonel (retired) John S. Lewis passed away peacefully during the early morning hours of March 21, 2018 with his wife, Gail, by his side. He lived a life of honor and service and was a dedicated family man. John was born on December 11, 1944 in Joliet, IL to Charles Lewis and Jeanne Yackee Lewis. He graduated from Woodruff HS, Peoria, IL in 1962 and Bradley University in 1966 with a Bachelors of Arts in History and a Masters Degree in Personnel Management from Central Michigan University. Upon graduation, John entered the Air Force as a commissioned officer on February 6, 1967. During his Air Force career he served in Vietnam, was a special agent in the Office of Special Investigation, Deputy Chief of Security for the Joint Chiefs of Staff working at the Pentagon, and Special Agent at the Defense Intelligence Agency.
He retired from the Air Force in California in 1988, with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. He spent a year working for RDA/Logicon in Marina del Rey, CA as the Director of Corporate Security before moving to Boise, ID to serve in a governor appointed position for 9 years as the Assistant Director, Police Services Division for the Idaho Department of Law Enforcement. After a short time working for the Elmore County Sheriff he was called back to Washington, D.C. to work for the Federal Government and the Defense Intelligence Agency in 2002. John returned to Boise, ID and began working at the Ada County Sheriff’s Office in Internal Affairs and continued working for the Sheriff’s office and the U.S. Department of Justice United States Marshals Service part time until February 2018.
