MARY P. SCANLAN "Patsy" died at the Andrus House Nursing Facility in Bethesda, MD on Monday, January 5, 2015. Patsy was born in Washington, DC, on June 28, 1929, the eldest of the six children of Dr. John J. Scanlan and Agnes Mary Galvin Scanlan. She attended St. Thomas the Apostle parochial school, graduated from Georgetown Visitation Convent High School, and then the old Wilson Teachers College in Washington. Except for during her recent illness, Patsy lived in the same family house in Cleveland Park for her entire life. A geographer by training and trade, she became a career defense analyst with the federal government and retired from the Defense Intelligence Agency in 1990. She was predeceased by two brothers, Monsignor John J. Scanlan Jr. of the Archdiocese of Washington, and James G. Scanlan, a captain in the Metropolitan DC Police Department, as well as a sister, Sheila Scanlan Sabatini, of Potomac, MD. Patsy is survived by one sister, Sister Margaret Shawn Scanlan, SND of Silver Spring, MD; a brother, Thomas C. Scanlan (Angela) of Fairfax VA; as well as her niece, Sofia M. Scanlan of Vienna, VA and a nephew, Michael Sabatini of Athol, ID. A gathering of family and friends will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, January 12, at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in her name to the Black and Indian Missions Office in Washington, DC.
