Still Serving in Defense of the Nation

Michael Robert Freed (1948 - 2016)

Michael Robert Freed, 67 of St. James Plantation, Southport, NC passed away on February 17, 2016. He graduated from the University of Maryland, College Park with a degree in Journalism in 1973 and was a proud veteran of the United States Marine Corps. Michael began working for the federal government in 1975; he worked for the Department of the Army, the Joint Chiefs of Staff, and the Defense Intelligence Agency, retiring after over 35 years of civil service. Michael continued his career in the intelligence community as a defense contractor, retiring to settle in Southport, NC in 2015. He is survived by his wife of 41 years Jamy Freed; a son John Freed of Herndon, VA; two daughters, Meghan Ausherman of Frederick, MD and Leah Fischer of New Orleans. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 7th 2016 at the Reserve Club in St. James at 12 noon. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the SECU Hospice House of Brunswick, 955 Mercy Lane, Bolivia, NC 28422.
