Below is a letter from Cal's wife, forwarded to us by a DIAA member:
Dearest Friends, By now you may or may not know that God called Cal home and he passed away on Monday night, 6 August. Please forgive me for reaching out via email, but it has been so difficult and such a busy time, I just wanted to somehow reach out to all of you. Everything has been happening so quickly this week. About two months ago Cal started getting sick. What we thought was just a bad cold turned out to be a severe form of pneumonia. Despite trying the strongest drugs and aggressive treatments in a series of hospitals, his lungs became increasingly weakened until he could no longer breathe using assisted support. His system started to shut down and I held his hand as he went to walk with God.
Cal cared for you all so very much. He loved his friends and you enriched his life. He also loved serving in the USG and was always committed to doing the right thing at the right time.
I was blessed to be with Cal for 17 wonderful years and we have two beautiful children. He worked so hard to take care of his home, his family and work. He taught me so much about life, love and commitment. If we carry our memories of him in our heart, he’ll always be with us. ***I know I’m missing folks here and I know the Agency will publish the announcement to the workforce, but please feel free to share with those who know Cal.
Love to you all, Lisa, Gabriela & Nicholas
