WILLIAM M. PIERSON III, August 14, 1953-October 13, 2022
It is with great sadness to announce the passing of William M. Pierson III (Bill) at the age of 69 from an un-diagnosed illness.
Bill was born and raised in Rochester, New York, and obtained a Bachelor of Arts Degree in German Studies from Saint John Fisher College. He was also a graduate of the Post-Graduate Intelligence Program at the Joint Military Intelligence College. In addition, he held several certifications for language proficiency.
Bill enlisted in the United States Army in October 1976, and was stationed in Germany, California,
Texas and the greater Washington DC area, where he retired. After a successful 20-year career with the United States Army, he transitioned to civilian service and his career quickly advanced to an integral Senior Level Associate of the Defense Intelligence Agency. He supervised and commanded military operations in the Middle East, Europe, the Former Soviet Union and Africa.
He retired from DIA in 2018 and moved to Palm Coast, FL.
Bill is the recipient of numerous military and civilian awards including the National Intelligence Medal of Achievement, DIA's Director Award, DIA's Meritorious Civilian Service Award and Legion of Merit, among many others.
Bill thoroughly enjoyed his retirement. He often played golf twice a week, and also could be seen at the Rod and Gun Club at least twice a week. He loved the water, and was often found at his backyard swimming pool or the beach. Two additional hobbies evolved- mixology and cooking. Friday night happy hour was customary. He was an award winning craft beer brewer, certified shooting instructor, active member of his church and the Knights of Columbus and a member of the NRA.
Bill is survived by his wife of 45 years, Marilou, his two daughters, Elizabeth and Erika and two
grandchildren, Audrey and Ryan.
A Memorial Service is scheduled for December 9at Corpus Christi Church in St. Augustine FL.
Burial will be at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date (estimate at least one year).
